          Technological and Applied Studies (TAS)

TAS is about people bringing meaningful change to society and their environment through the process of problem solving. This is done through projects, where students are taught skills in analysis of problems, research, creative thinking, project management, communication and evaluation.

Projects result in creating a designed product, system or environment. It is a process based activity in which problems are identified and innovative and creative outcomes are sought.

TAS courses are taught from Years 7–12.

In Years 7 and 8, students study the Technology Mandatory course which at Oxford Falls Grammar School includes hard materials, food and computer based technologies.

From Years 9–12, subjects in TAS are offered as elective courses. These include:

          Visual Arts

We offer a dynamic and well regarded Visual Arts journey for students, from Kindy to Year 12.

In the Senior School Visual Arts is part of the curriculum until Year 8 where the range extends to printmaking, watercolour, clay and pastel. Students’ cognitive appreciation of art is also challenged by learning to critically evaluate artworks and theories.

In Years 9–12, students may select Visual Arts as an elective where the calibre of art making continues to rise as students develop.

At the HSC level, students engage with new levels of inquiry and creativity – and produce more sophisticated works to correspond with greater freedom to pursue materials and subjects of personal interest.

Our HSC candidates have consistently been selected for the NSW Board of Studies showcase ArtExpress and the popular local Express Yourself exhibition at Manly Art Gallery. Candidates have also been successful in selection for enrichment programs, as well as acceptance to competitive tertiary art courses.
